Our young people are interested, do we need to send leaders?
NO!!!!
It would be fantastic if your whole group showed up with leaders in tow, but its not required. If you have young people interested in taking part then they will be looked after by the production team as well as the Scout and Guide leaders in the show.
Anything else I need to know?
We’re asking the cast to provide their own outfit for the performance that consists of:
- A plain black t-shirt, shirt or top
- Dark (preferably black) trousers or leggings
- Dark footwear
Gangshow will be providing a sparkly Necker to complete the outfit.
We are asking all cast members to pay a subscription of £5 to help some of the costs of putting on the show. We also need lots of people to come along and watch so let everyone know you’re going to be on stage and get lots of people along to watch!
Taking part can also help you earn badges and awards. Cubs can get the Entertainers badge, and tick off some of the parts of the Our Skills Challenge Award, which is needed to get the Chief Scout’s Silver Award. Scouts can also earn their Entertainers badge, as well as contributing to the Scouts Creative Challenge Award, which is needed to get the Chief Scout’s Gold Award.

Postponement of the 2020 show
It is with a very heavy heart that we write this post. As a result of the instructions issued from both the Scout Association and Girl Guiding UK, alongside the Government recommendation to avoid non-essential social contact we cannot proceed with our planned 2020 Gang Show.
This will be devastating to all involved and we thank all of our cast and crew for their hard work and commitment that they have given every Sunday since we started rehearsals in January.
Moving forward, we must make sure that we do everything we can to keep everybody safe and that includes our audience. We do intend to reschedule this show so that all the hard work will not be wasted, but timing will be dependent on re-booking with the Wyvern Theatre.
Calling All Scout & Guide Groups!
Swindon Gang Show is back at the Wyvern theatre on May 2020. We have a cast, crew and backstage team made up of over 100 members of Scouting and Guiding but there is still another way you can take part.
We are challenging all the groups and units in Swindon North, Ridgeway and Wiltshire North Guiding to make a short video that will be shown during the opening of the 2020 show.
The videos need to inspired by the Children in Need Music Video for Is This the Way to Amarillo. This could include the marching, clapping along to the “sha la la la la la la’s” or anything you think will work. Videos can be at your unit nights, or out and about at any activities you might be doing like hiking, climbing, canoeing & caving.
If you want some music to inpire you, you can get the mp3 backing track here.
Videos should ideally be:
- Filmed in HD resolution or higher – most modern smart phones will do this
- Filmed in landscape so it translates better to the big screen
- between 10 and 30 seconds long
If you have lots of ideas you can submit multiple videos as long as they look different and/or involve differe people. For example you could let each patrol do their own video, or you can submit videos of your whole unit from different activities.
All videos will have the sound removed and edited into a montage synchronized with the music. The videos will be shown in a public theatre so only submit content that can be shown in this manner. Please note that no individual names will be included in the video, but we may add text to identify the name of the Group or unit who have contributed.
Once completed, please submit video to: amarillo@swindongangshow.org by April 30th to allow us to edit them in time for use in the show.
Gangshow 2020 is a go!

Subscriptions
It takes over £20,000 to put on Swindon Gangshow to cover the costs of rehearsals space, costumes, musicians, and theatre hire. As with all Scouting and Guiding events, we ask all the cast members to pay a subscription to help cover some of these costs.
Rates:
- £45 per person – Just over £2 a session
- £30 for each additional person from the same family
We recognise that often there are several members from the same family in the show, and so we are offering a discounted rate for each additional family member to make the cost more manageable.
Schedule:
- £15 / £10 – 26th January
- £15 / £10 – 1st March
- £15 / £10 – 5th April
If you have any problems with meeting the payment schedule, then please get in touch with the production team. Don’t let this be a blocker to being in the show!
Bring a Friend Discount
If you introduce someone to the show who was not in the cast for our last Wyvern show then you both receive a £5 discount.
The person you introduce can be someone from your family, like a younger brother or sister, or a friend from your group. They can even be someone who has done Gangshows before 2018 and wants to come back.
