It is with a very heavy heart that we write this post. As a result of the instructions issued from both the Scout Association and Girl Guiding UK, alongside the Government recommendation to avoid non-essential social contact we cannot proceed with our planned 2020 Gang Show.
This will be devastating to all involved and we thank all of our cast and crew for their hard work and commitment that they have given every Sunday since we started rehearsals in January.
Moving forward, we must make sure that we do everything we can to keep everybody safe and that includes our audience. We do intend to reschedule this show so that all the hard work will not be wasted, but timing will be dependent on re-booking with the Wyvern Theatre.
Swindon Gang Show is back at the Wyvern theatre on May 2020. We have a cast, crew and backstage team made up of over 100 members of Scouting and Guiding but there is still another way you can take part.
We are challenging all the groups and units in Swindon North, Ridgeway and Wiltshire North Guiding to make a short video that will be shown during the opening of the 2020 show.
The videos need to inspired by the Children in Need Music Video for Is This the Way to Amarillo. This could include the marching, clapping along to the “sha la la la la la la’s” or anything you think will work. Videos can be at your unit nights, or out and about at any activities you might be doing like hiking, climbing, canoeing & caving.
If you want some music to inpire you, you can get the mp3 backing track here.
Videos should ideally be:
- Filmed in HD resolution or higher – most modern smart phones will do this
- Filmed in landscape so it translates better to the big screen
- between 10 and 30 seconds long
If you have lots of ideas you can submit multiple videos as long as they look different and/or involve differe people. For example you could let each patrol do their own video, or you can submit videos of your whole unit from different activities.
All videos will have the sound removed and edited into a montage synchronized with the music. The videos will be shown in a public theatre so only submit content that can be shown in this manner. Please note that no individual names will be included in the video, but we may add text to identify the name of the Group or unit who have contributed.
Once completed, please submit video to: email@example.com by April 30th to allow us to edit them in time for use in the show.
We had a brilliant turnout at our taster session and saw some fantastic talent in our showcase slots, and now its time launch the 2020 show!
We hope everyone who attended the taster day had loads of fun and are looking forward to being part of our 2020 show.
If you could not make the taster day, then do not worry, you can still sign up to be part of the show!
Swindon Gangshow is open to cubs and brownies and older, but be aware that our main show is open to members of Swindon North & Ridgeway Scouting Districts and Wiltshire North Guiding County who will be 8 or older at the in May 2020.
All of the rehearsal dates are available on dates page.
It takes over £20,000 to put on Swindon Gangshow to cover the costs of rehearsals space, costumes, musicians, and theatre hire. As with all Scouting and Guiding events, we ask all the cast members to pay a subscription to help cover some of these costs.
- £45 per person – Just over £2 a session
- £30 for each additional person from the same family
We recognise that often there are several members from the same family in the show, and so we are offering a discounted rate for each additional family member to make the cost more manageable.
- £15 / £10 – 26th January
- £15 / £10 – 1st March
- £15 / £10 – 5th April
If you have any problems with meeting the payment schedule, then please get in touch with the production team. Don’t let this be a blocker to being in the show!
Bring a Friend Discount
If you introduce someone to the show who was not in the cast for our last Wyvern show then you both receive a £5 discount.
The person you introduce can be someone from your family, like a younger brother or sister, or a friend from your group. They can even be someone who has done Gangshows before 2018 and wants to come back.
Tickets are now available for the Christmas Concert. To get hold of some you can email the box office or find us at various district events and nights. There are a limited number of seats, so get in early so you don’t miss out!
On Sunday 1st of December, we will be running a taster session at Kingsdown School, before rehearsals start for our upcoming show at the Wyvern theatre in May 2020.
Anyone who wants to be in the show or is interested in finding out what gangshow is all about should head to our taster session to see what it’s all about. If you have a spare hour, come along and see what all the fuss is about.
The taster session is open to cubs and brownies and older, but be aware that our main show is open to members of Swindon North & Ridgeway Scouting Districts and Wiltshire North Guiding County who will be8 or older by the time of the show in May 2020.
Everyone is invited to our main session from 2:30 – 3:30pm, where we’ll start with some warm ups and then move on to learning some singing and movement to one of the songs from our upcoming show.
We will also be running optional 20 minute showcase slots before and after the main session for you to show off your talents that we can use in the show. Take the opportunity to let us know how well you sing, show off a prepared dance routine or demo your acting skills.
If you can’t make the taster day and still want to get info about our next show, you can still fill in the form – just select the appropriate option!
Full details on the rehearsal schedule are available on dates page.
We will be putting together a Choir to sing a mixture of Carols and songs at the the Christmas Concert on Friday 20th of December. We are looking to recruit around 30 people, there are 15 songs with the opportunity of some group solos and a little bit of movement on the jazzier numbers!
Who can take part?
The choir is open to all members of Swindon North or Ridgeway Scout Districts and Wiltshire North Guides who are 7 years or older.
You do not have to have been involved in Gangshow in the past, if you want to sing then come along!
When is it?
The choir will be rehearsing at All Saint Church Hall next to Ferndale School on:
- Wednesday 4th December 7-8:30pm
- Wednesday 11th December 7-8.30pm
- Wednesday 18th December 7-8.30pm
The concert will be at Swindon Academy on Beech Avenue.
- Friday 20th December 6:45-9pm.
Our young people are interested, so we need to send leaders?
It would be fantastic if your whole group showed up with leaders in tow, but its not required. If you have young people interested in taking part then they will be looked after by the production team as well as the Scout and Guide leaders in the choir.
Anything else I need to know?
We’re asking the choir to provide their own outfit for the performance that consists of:
- A plain black t-shirt, shirt or top
- Dark (preferable black) trousers or leggings
- Dark footwear
Gangshow will be providing a sparkly Necker to complete the outfit.
There is no cost for you to be part of the Choir. In order to cover the costs and raise some money for the Gangshow, we do need lots of people to come along and watch so let everyone know your going to be on stage and get lots of people along to watch!
Sounds great, how to I sign up?
Fill in the online form and we’ll see you at rehearsals!
This year marks 100 years since the end of the First World War and at the start on November the centenary commemoration services were in the forefront of peoples minds. To honour this event, we have included a special item in our show that features songs from the Great War.
To tie in with this, and because of the excellent work they do, we are pleased to announce that our 2018 supported charity is Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a charity dedicated to supporting children & young people who have lost a parent whilst serving in the British Armed Forces.
To help raise funds there will be a bucket collection and where the our audience members to donate what they can. Additionally, Scotty’s Little Soldiers will have a stall in the foyer of the theatre where they will be selling merchandise and you can find out more about the services they provide children who’s lives have been affected by war.
You can read more about the work they and how your donations will be spent on their website:
