A Note from the Chair….

I thought now is the right time to update you with some details about our ‘Show’.

Firstly thank-you to all of you, Cast and Production Team for what looks and sounds to be a great show coming together. The tickets are now on sale, so please get as many of your friends and family to come along to see the show.

It costs around £25,000 for us to put on the show at the Wyvern Theatre. We can only do this with your help. Our biggest fundraiser is our ‘600 Club’ We sell numbers from 1 to 600 at £1 each. The draw will take place on Sunday 19th March during the rehearsal. The 1st Prize is £50, 2nd Prize is £30 and 3rd Prize is £20. Please can you take a sheet of numbers to sell to your friends and family. I will be in the school entrance on Sunday.

Another way we raise funds is by selling dedication panels in our program so that you can wish a member of cast ‘all the best’ These panels cost £5 for a single or £10 if you want a larger one. Please find the details here, and paper copies will be available at rehearsal.

If you run a business locally and would like to advertise in our program I have attached details here. The cost of this is £25 to £120, depending on size and colour.

Finally we run a raffle during our time at the theatre. If you have any items you would like to donate please bring them along over the next few weeks.

Many Thanks to you all in anticipation of your help.

The Story So Far….

This week saw the cast and crew of the 2017 show return to rehearsals, so we thought it would be a good time to update you on what we’ve been up to!

Rehearsals for the latest show started back in November 2016.

Fund-raise or Die – The Importance of Fundraising

If you are a cast member, a parent or guardian of cast member or a volunteer who helps out at the show then it’s likely that you will have heard us asking for help with fundraising. We ask for people to go to bag packs, we ask for people to volunteer for jobs at Lydiard fireworks, we ask for raffle donations for show week to name a few.

And it’s possible that you might be wondering why? Each cast member currently pays £30 to be in the show, and we sell tickets for the show. So why do need to raise more funds? Well the answer, as you might expect, is pretty simple; putting on the show costs more than we bring in fees and ticket sales.

Let’s take a look some numbers to understand where the money is spent.

The production team rookie – by Ben Wiltshire

Whilst presenting on behalf of Gangshow at the Swindon Ridgeway District AGM, I said something like:

“We’ve changed how rehearsals are ran, and the feedback has been the cast really enjoyed it and they picked everything up much more quickly.”

This lead to the obvious follow-up questions: How have they changes & Why? So I thought I write some words explaining how I got involved in the last show, what I was doing and how that changed rehearsals. Continue reading

Gang Show 2017 Key Dates

Planning for the 2017 Swindon Gang Show is well underway, and we can now let you know the key dates for all the rehearsals and shows.

The rehearsal space at Kingsdown School is booked in the afternoons from 1-6pm, but with the staggered call times each member of cast will only need to be there for approximately 4 hours.

The four week before Christmas will focus on learning all the group songs, and after Christmas we’ll be adding the movement, sketches and solos to complete the show. Cast members need to be all rehearsals in order to give themselves the best chance of performing confidently and enjoying themselves during show week. We do recognise that there may be a few cast members who not be able to attend a rehearsal due to the busy lives they lead. Please try to minimise this, and let the production team know in advance!

Please note that we are still waiting for final confirmation from our rehearsal venue on all these dayes, but we’re 98% sure this where we’re going to be!

On the Road – Ridgeway District AGM

On Thursday 30th June we were at the Swindon Ridgeway District AGM and had a chance to talk to all the leaders and district team about 2017 show, which is now only 9 months away!

Swindon Ridgeway is one of three areas that feed into Swindon Gangshow, the others being Swindon North in Scouting and Wiltshire North in Guiding. This was great opportunity to start to get Gangshow in the forefront of groups mind as after summer we’ll all be back into the autumn term with assessments and rehearsals quickly upon us.

We had a really positive engagement and received some kind words from Steve Barley, Wiltshire Scout County Commissioner who watched our last show in November 2015. We already have follow up visits penciled in to 7th and 21st Swindon to run some performing arts activities and talk directly to youth members about the upcoming show. If you would like to arrange a visit to your group then please get in touch via the contact us page.

Finally, we’d like to thank the Swindon Ridgeway District team for allowing us to present at their AGM and for the excellent catering provided!
